Exporting Plants and Forest Products

This section deals with those requirements for exporters as well as some of the certification standards and procedures associated with exporting plants and/or forest products.

New Zealand is a signatory to the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The convention is designed to stop unwanted plants, plant pests or plant diseases being spread through international trade. Trees and forest products are also covered by the convention. The New Zealand Government has designated MAF as the National Plant Protection Organisation (NPPO) to ensure that New Zealand is meeting the requirements of the IPPC.

The role of the Plant Exports Team is to provide credible assurances and to reduce technical market access barriers. Anyone taking or sending plants and/or forest products out of New Zealand must meet clear phytosanitary (plant health) standards of the importing countries. Additional information is available in the Introduction to Phytosantiary Certification for the Export of Plants & Plant Products from New Zealand.

It is important to read the plant exporting disclaimer before accessing the following information.
